MICHAEL KEYSER was born in Baltimore in 1947. After college, he worked as a reporter for The Baltimore Sun for several years, before taking up photography in 1968. He became interested in motor racing the following year and for the next decade was involved in the sport as a photographer, filmmaker and driver. In 1973 he produced a book and feature length documentary film, both entitled The Speed Merchants.

His latest book, A French Kiss with Death, chronicles the making of Steve McQueen's film Le Mans.

Throughout the 1970s, Keyser was a regular competitor on the FIA endurance circuit and in the IMSA Camel GT series, where he scored numerous wins, including a victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring with Al Holbert in 1976. He was known best for his yellow and black Toad Hall Porsche RSRs, although he later switched to a Chevrolet Monza.

For the past ten years Keyser has operated Autosports Marketing Associates, Ltd. in Butler, Maryland where he lives with his wife Beth.
